Annual Parittha Chanting, Atavisi Buddha Puja & Kathina Ceremony of Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara on 22nd & 23rd of October 2011
As it were previous years this year also the above Buddhist Association will hold its annual Atavisi Buddha Puja, all night Parittha chanting & Kathina ceremony on 22nd & 23rd of October at Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara.
The Annual civic ceremony will be started on 22nd Saturday at 2.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. where The Lord Mayor of Birmingham - Councillor Anita Ward, Dr.Jagjit Taunque Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire the Queen’s representative, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Dr. Chris Nonis, Ms.Shabana Mahmood M.P. for Ladywood Constituency and many more distinguish guests. Those who wish to participate are cordially invited.
The annual ceremonies followed by paying respect to previous 28 Buddhas (Atavisi Buddha Puja) at 6.00 p.m. and all night parittha chanting started at 8.15 p.m. until following day morning. The Kathina ceremony will be held at midday after Sangha dana for monks. For all these ceremonies many monks from different nationalities from all over U.K will participate.
This year’s main sponsors of Kathina Dana will be Mr.Nimeka & Dr.Mrs.Chaturani de Silva along with their parents from Sri Lanka and United Kingdom as well as all other devotees and members of the Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara. The morning Dana for monks will be offered by Dr.Jinendra Ekanayake and parents Dr.Jinadasa Dr.Mrs.Indira Ekanayake. Those who missed to sponsor one of Atavisi Buddha Pujas last time may do so this time at the cost of £50.00 per each to cover day to day expenses of the Vihara.
The Kathina Cheevara Puja will be held at midday after midday Dana for monks and time table is as follow.

Sunday 23rd October 2011
6.30 a.m. – 7.30 a.m. Morning Dana for Ven. Monks
10.30 am – 11.00 a.m. Buddha Puja - You may bring any food item or any other
item to offer to Buddha Puja & Sangha Dana
11.00am – 11.30 a.m. Dana for Ven. Monks - You may participate by bringing
Any item to offer for monks
12. Noon – 1.00pm - Offering of the Kathina Robe and other requisites.
1.00 p.m. on wards Lunch for participants provided by main sponsors.
